Letní Letná is going to be LIGHT this year!

18–25 August 2020

The best of the Czech and international contemporary circus scene, theatre, workshops, and activities for families with children…

You can look forward to all this at Letní Letná Light between 18 and 25 August 2020.

Following the easement of measures preventing the spread of COVID19 we decided to make Letní Letná happen in a different, lighter version.

The meadow at the Hanavsky Pavilion is going to host a big open-air scene where Czech and international contemporary circus companies will perform. “We made a decision not to rob the spectators of the festival atmosphere and let them have a cultural picnic at Letná. We are currently finishing the programme and trying to bring several international shows,” explains the head of the festival Jiří Turek.

The premiere of the documentary A tightrope walker over the Vltava depicting the opening of last year’s festival and some of the strong moments from behind the scenes will be part of the festival. The world known funambulist Tatiana Mosio-Bongonga walked with no harness a 350-metre long rope hanging at 35 metres over the Vltava. “Incredible stories full of emotions and suspense begin to form during the filming. The screening will be a memory of last year’s opening but also a symbol of overcoming challenges that life brings,” says the producer of the documentary and the festival manager Ivana Pěkná.

Every day there will obviously be a rich programme for families with children. The visitors of the festival can also look forward to circus and art workshops and to two stages with shows for children. “We believe that the interest of the visitors will be exceptional even though this will only be a shorter version of the festival which will last just for a week. We hope that despite all the pitfalls and improvisation we can give our audience a one-of-a-kind cultural experience,” concludes Jiří Turek.

The full programme will be published on 23 June 2020.
